Charleen J. Berkenpas, 69, of Lisbon, died Friday morning in University Hospital at Iowa City following a short illness.

Born Feb. 13, 1920, at Le Mars, she married Arthur Berkenpas there June 5, 1941. Mrs. Berkenpas taught country school in the Le Mars area for two years before moving to Lisbon in 1957. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Priscilla Guild at Mount Vernon and Krafty Klatter Klub at Lisbon.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Janet Novak of Central City, Dianne Berkenpas Bickal of Center Point and Karly Berkenpas of Roeland Park, Kan.; and son, Larry of Dixon, Ill.; a sister, Violet Lehrman of Stanwood; a brother, Dale Reinking of Chicago; three, grandchildren, nine step-grandcildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Services; 1:30 p.m. Monday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church Mount Vernon, by the Rev. Burton Harger. Burial: Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday in Morgan Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, and from noon to service time Monday in the church. A memorial fund has been established.
