Memorial services were today at the Barker Funeral Home in West Branch, with the Rev. William Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Downey Cemetery near Downey, Iowa.

Cornelia Aartje Scholten was born on September 22, 1910, in Boyden, Iowa, the daughter of Adrian and Aartje (Mouw) Scholten. She was a 1928 graduate of Western Christian High School in Hull. She married Bert Berkenpas on August 7, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She had been employed in the housekeeping department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and later at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, until her retirement.
She was a member of the Downey Baptist Church where she belonged to the Mission Circle and most recently she was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and the Women's Fellowship in the church at Keokuk.
Survivors include one son, Bob (Pam) Berkenpas of Downey; one daughter, AdriAnne (Tom) Hakes of Keokuk; five grandchildren, Andy, Molly, Todd, Kevin and Sally; five sisters, Jen Berkenpas of Sioux Center, Pauline Bliek of Rock Valley, Martha Zandstra and Arta Collins, both of Grand Rapids, MI, and Arlyna Van DeGriend of Hull.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and three sisters.
