Funeral services were Wed. Dec. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Marilyn Rensink and Dr. Robert Vermeer officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Mrs. Berkenpas was born Jan. 10, 1906, near Boyden, the daughter of Adrian H. and Aartje (Mouw) Scholten. She was raised in the Hull area.
She married Richard Henry Berkenpas at Hospers on April 8, 1931. They lived in Le Mars for two years and then moved to Sioux Center. She was employed at the Sioux Center Community Hospital for many years. Her husband died March 20, 1997 in Sioux City.
She was a member of Central Reformed Church where in earlier years she had been active in the women's organizations. She enjoyed bowling and crocheting.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Leone and Robert Eidsmoe of Rio Verdes, AZ; three sons and their wives, Alden and Joyce of Mapleton, Carl and Barb of Ashton, Merlin and Peg Berkenpas of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law Shirley Berkenpas of Rock Valley; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Pauline, Martha, Arta and Arlyna.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Berkenpas Jr; a daughter Jeanine Berkenpas; a grandson; and several younger brothers and sisters.
