William S. Berkenpas, 79, of LeMars, died Monday, December 27, 1993, at his home.

Mr. Berkenpas was born August 8, 1914, in Sioux County, the son of Jake and Bertha (Dambrink) Berkenpas. He worked and farmed in Sioux and Plymouth counties all his life. He married Lillian Plueger on January 21, 1941, at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township.

He enjoyed fishing. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, ELCA, LeMars.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Lanny Harms of LeMars; a son and his wife, Gary and Judy Berkenpas of LeMars; three brothers, Arthur Berkenpas of Lisbon, Ray Berkenpas, and his wife, Mary, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Henry Berkenpas, and his wife, Anita, of LeMars; five sisters, Lois Singer and her husband, Merlin, Dorothy Hoppe and her husband, Paul, Edith Renken and her husband, Walter, all of LeMars, Jean Van Roekel, of Alton, Frances Leonard and her husband, Howard, of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leonard and Norman; a sister, Alice, and a half-sister, Della.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, ELCA, LeMars, with Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, LeMars.
