MADISON — Ella H. Barfknecht, age 87, of 1527 Burve Road, Deerfield, died on Wednesday, November 25, 1987, in a Madison nursing home. She was born on March 27, 1900, to August and Lydia (Draeger) Berlin, in Lake Mills, and she grew up on a farm north of Waterloo. On June 28, 1922, she was married to Carl A. Barfknecht of Lake Mills; they moved to Madison in 1928. She was a member of the Eastside Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS) and Its Mission Guild. She had worked at the Emporium Department Store for twenty years. She formerly lived at 302 N. Baldwin Street, and more recently, was making her home with her son, Gerald, in Deerfield, for two years prior to entering Arbor View Nursing Home, in Madison. Survivors include two sons, Gerald (Mary) of Deerfield, and Burch (Jean) of Rotonda West, Florida; four granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband. Carl, on October 23, 1953; her parents; two brothers; a sister; and a baby daughter. Funeral services will be held at the EASTSIDE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2310 Independence Lane, at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 28, 1987, with Reverend Paul S. Soukup officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., on Friday, November 27, at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastside Ev. Mission Guild.
