Howard Albert Tanner 2004 Halifax Chronicle Herald
(From the collection of Charlene Veinotte)

Howard Albert "Buddie" Tanner, 70, Stonehurst, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004, in Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born at Blue Rocks, he was a son of the late Wallace and Calpurnia (Whynacht) Tanner. Buddie went to sea at an early age and was an inshore fisherman all of his life. He was a great lover of the sea who fought the waves and storms of life with the same heart as he fought the waves and storms of the sea. He was an adherent of St. Paul's United Church, Blue Rocks. In his spare time, Buddie could always be found making duck decoys, model boats, buoys or just working with his hands. He was a friend to many and will greatly be missed by those who knew him. Buddie is survived by sisters, Edith (Hilton) Croft, First South; Jean Mosher, First Peninsula; Kathleen (Melbourne) Langille, Lunenburg; brothers, Darrell (Christine), Stonehurst; David, Waterville; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Zinck. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, with visitation from 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul's United Church, Blue Rocks, Rev. Ruth Brown officiating. Interment will be in Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery. Flowers from the immediate family only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Church, Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery or to any other charity.

With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
