Donald E. Bertier, Sr., 84, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Largo, Florida and Godfrey, Illinois, died Friday, March 3, 2017 at Landmark Hospital of Cape Girardeau due to pulmonary complications. He was born to Theodore Paul and Eunice Fretz Bertier on October 2, 1932 in Alton, Illinois.

Don graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1950 and served in the Navy on the USS Intrepid. He was a career machinist at Owens-Illinois and served as President of Alton-Wood River Sportsman's Club. Don was a 32nd degree Master Mason, following the footsteps of his father, and was pleased to have this legacy embraced by his son. Don was an avid duck hunter and fisherman, and was generous to share of his catch to his many friends in the Four Seasons community in Largo. His greatest joys were caring for his beloved wife and spending time with his grandchildren.

He married Mary "Kay" Meldrum on March 15, 1958. She survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Deb (Mike) Davey of Cape Girardeau, MO; his son, Don Jr (Jo) of Creve Coeur, MO; and his five grandchildren: Nick (Sandy) Davey of West Richland, WA; Beth Davey of St. Louis, MO; Samantha, Duncan and Dominic Bertier of Creve Coeur, MO. He is also survived by his older brother, Ted (Florence) Bertier of Georgia.
