Sarah Bethune Barnes, wife of Elwood Barnes, 64, of Florence, died Friday, June 23, 2006, in a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born February 19, 1942, in Clarendon County, SC, to the late John and Ruth Gertrude Mills Bethune. She was predeceased by brothers, Bill, Johnnie and Frank Bethune; sisters, Beulah Haddock, Ruthie Milette, Marie Jordan, Gertrude Gorrie and Corrine Ackerman; and stepson, Ronnie Barnes .

She was a graduate of Manning High School and was a lab analyst for Wellman Manufacturing for 25 years. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Willow Creek Baptist Church and volunteered for Mercy Clinic. She was a dedicated mother. Her greatest accomplishment was her children.
