PATTERSON ‹ Gussie Mae Bethune Aspinwall, 96, died Monday (Jan. 16, 2006) morning at Baptist Village Nursing Home. A native of Pierce County, she lived in Waycross for a number of years before moving back to the family farm in Patterson in 1930. She was a homemaker and during World War II had also worked at the ship yards in Brunswick for the Civilian War Effort, along with her late husband, Clifton M. Aspinwall.

She was a daughter of the late John Anthony and Victoria Pafford Bethune and was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Hubert Aspinwall, and several brothers and sisters. She was a member of the Patterson Baptist Church where she was in the Faith Sunday School Class. At the time of her death she was the oldest living member of Patterson Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Doris Jean Kingry and Nina and David Casebeer, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Clifton and Elizabeth Aspinwall, of Denmark, Ga. and David Anthony and Eloise Aspinwall, of Richmond Hill; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 at Patterson Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the Patterson Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Patterson Baptist Church Building Fund, 5770 E. Main St., Patterson, Ga. 31557. Active pallbearers were Paul Ewig, Bobby Sweat, Eugene Sweat, Gary Hill, Don Sports Jr. and Hugh Terrell. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Faith Sunday School Class (formerly the Fidelis Sunday School Class). Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
