Allene Bigbee
Allene Penry Bigbee, matriarch of a prominent New Mexican family, died Friday at her Santa Fe Home. She was 101.
Mrs. Bigbee was the mother of Harry Bigbee, a prominent Santa Fe attorney for many years. Her late husband, Dade Bigbee, and his brother, Frank Bigbee, homesteaded in the Encino Area of Torrance county in 1908 and developed a ranch that covered more than 100,000 acres. The Bigbee family ranch was sold about three ears ago to Henry Singleton.
Mrs. Bigbee was born Aug. 22, 1887, in Waco, Texas. Her father, Louis Penry, was an attorney in West Texas and later practiced in Fort Worth.
She attended Baylor University in Waco and later taught school in Planiview, Texas, where the family moved in the early 1900's.
Mrs. Bigbee was married to Harry Long in Plainview about 1910. She had 3 children with Long. Long died in 1924 and she moved to New Mexico 2 years later and married Dade Bigbee. Her sister, Mildred, was married to Frank Bigbee.
The Bigbees moved from the ranch to Santa Fe in 1952. Dade died in December 1954 at the age of 73.
Mrs. Bigbee is survived by her son, Harry Bigbee, of Santa Fe, a daughter and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.....Funeral Arrangements are pending.
