Final rites for Bert B. Biggs, 60, of Piney View, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Gene Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. He died at 6 a.m. Wednesday (June 30) in a local hospital followin an apparent heart attack. Born May 10, 1911 at Sanger, he was the son of the late Samuel Austin and Nora Frances Cantley Biggs. A resident of Piney View for the past 27 years, he was a retired coal miner last working at the Smith-Stover Coal Company, Jonben, and was a member of UMWA Local No. 6522. Biggs was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was married to the former Nellie Hall, May 31, 1934, who survives him.
