Longtime Staten Islander, Joseph V. Bilotti Sr., 63, of Fort Pierce, Fla., a retired bus driver for the New York City Transit Authority, died Monday at Lawnwood Medical Center in Fort Pierce.

Mr. Bilotti grew up in Westerleigh, where he lived for 53 years before moving to Florida.

He graduated from Port Richmond High School and served the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962, as a driver for the military's top brass in Germany.

Mr. Bilotti received a bachelor's degree from the College of Staten Island.

After leaving the service, he worked for U.S. Gypsum on Richmond Terrace, then as a school bus driver for Pioneer Transportation Company, based on Staten Island.

He operated a bus for the New York City Transit Authority for 17 years, retiring in 1985. While working for the Port Authority, he operated his own business, Bilotti Fuel Oil, based in Westerleigh.

Mr. Bilotti was an avid sports fan and followed the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.

He was active in the West Shore Little League from 1976 to 1984, while his sons were young, serving as president from 1981 to 1983.

"He was a wonderful father," said his son, Stephen.

Mr. Bilotti enjoyed fixing things around the house and traveling.

He was a parishioner of St. Roch's R.C. Church, Port Richmond.

Besides his son Stephen, surviving are his mother, Teresa; his wife of 42 years, the former Arnel Volpe; sons Joseph Jr. and Thomas;daughters Susan Terzuoli and Michelle Bilotti; a sister Annmarie Buss; and nine grandchildren.

The funeral will be from the Matthew Funeral Home, Willowbrook, with a mass at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow at Holy Family R.C. Church, Westerleigh.

Burial will be at Calverton National Cemetery, Riverhead, N.Y.
