Anise was the daughter of James Binion (1827-1880) and Nancy Matilda Barker (1828-1915) of Carter County, Kentucky. She was named after her grandmother, Anise Wilson Barker.

Anise m.1.December 31,1870 Henry Stevens, son of William Stevens & Elizabeth Barker. They had five sons-William, John Henry, Charlie, Watt, and Albert. She m.2. Rufus Adkins in 1886.

Anise raised her grandson, George Ellis "Ellis" Stevens, son of William Stevens and Ellen Brown. All Anise's grandkids called her Grandma Adkins.
