Doris Birdwell Barnes was born in Cushing, Texas on July 19, 1928, and passed away quietly at her home in Tyler on December 10, 2015, going into the presence of the Lord she loved and served. She accompanied her husband Travis W. Barnes, as he pastored numerous churches in Kansas, Louisiana, West Texas and East Texas. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years, Travis W. Barnes, her daughter Judy Ann Barnes, three sisters and one brother. She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2015 in Cushing. Burial services will follow at McKnight Cemetery, Cushing. Visitation will be on Saturday night 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Dr. Judy Barnes Honorary Scholarship for the Sign Language Interpreter Training Program, Tyler Junior College, 1500 E. Fifth St., Tyler, TX 75701 or to the McKnight Cemetery Association, Cushing, TX 75760.
