Verna Ruth Ackley, 94 of Waco, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 in West.
Graveside service: 2:00 PM Friday, March 8, 2019 at Moore Cemetery in Chalk Bluff.
Visitation: 1:00 PM Friday, one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
Verna was born May 26, 1924, in Hillsboro to Dozier F. and Leola Ellen Chandler Birdwell. She married Oscar Ackley in September of 1943 in Corpus Christi while Oscar was in the Navy. She was a lifelong homemaker, and prided herself on keeping her home and yard clean. She was also an avid arrowhead hunter, and had a large collection of arrowheads.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar; son, Larry Ackley; daughter, Dianne Ackley Wood; brother, Roy Chandler Birdwell; and sister, Betty Payne.
She is survived by her grandson, Zachary Wood and wife Arleen; granddaughters, Dena Shelton and Kelly Pond; nephew, Trent Payne and wife Cindy; and niece, Susan Vieregge and husband Bruce.
