Eliza was the daughter of James Wyld and Marion Stodart. On 19 April 1842 she married John Stuart Blackie, son of Alexander Blackie and Helen Stodart. There were no children born in the marriage. Eliza's personality and character is described over six pages in the book James Wyld of Gilston by her brother Robert Stodart Wyld.

MRS. ELIZABETH HELEN WYLD STUART BLACKIE, of 30, Walker-street, Edinburgh, sometime of 9, Douglas-crescent, Edinburgh, who died on November 13, aged 90, widow of Professor John Stuart Blackie, formerly Professor of Greek in the University of Edinburgh, left personal estate valued at £9,385. By her will, dated April 23, 1895, she directed the trustees to pay £2,500 to the Principal and professors of the University of Edinburgh, to be held upon trust for a scholarship to be named the "John and Elizabeth Stuart Blackie Greek Theological Scholarship."
