ELSIE BLACKWOOD SMITH. 95, Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 in the chapel of Forest Hill Midtown Funeral Home in Memphis, TN with Dr. Mark McSwain officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery with Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home of Jackson, TN in charge. Mrs. Smith, the last of eleven children in her family, died May 14, 2010 at her home in Medon, TN. She was born in Choctaw County, MS daughter of the late Emmett Ross and Mary Ida Catledge Blackwood and moved to Memphis, TN at an early age attending the Memphis City Schools. Mrs. Smith moved to Jackson, TN to make her home in 1995. She began her professional career as Legal Secretary for the Bryan and Maxwell law firm in Memphis. Mrs. Smith retired after many years service as Executive Secretary for the E. H. Crump Company. She was a member of Memphis First Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Brown L. Smith in 1960. she leaves nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Visitation in Jackson, TN for Mrs. Smith will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, May 17 at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home. Visitation in Memphis, TN will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Tuesday prior to services at Forest Hill - Midtown Funeral Home.
