Gary W. Blackwood, age 71, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., loving husband of 41 years to Mary and devoted father to Ashley Gattozzi (Joe), passed away on August 19, 2017. He was born March 7, 1946 in Stanford, Ark.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Norene Blackwood.
He also leaves three grandchildren, Chris Gattozzi (Sassy), Holly Gattozzi, and Lilly Kaitlyn Gattozzi of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; three great-grandchildren, Owen, Anderson and Charlotte Gattozzi also of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, Glenda Asher (Gary) and two nephews, Steve Asher (Trudi) and Dan Asher (Tina) of St. Louis, Mo.
Gary graduated from Senath High School and Arkansas State University. Gary retired from Honeywell as the Worldwide Director of Marketing, after a successful career in plastic resin. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with his job.
His diverse interests included gathering with family, attending church and joining his many friends for games of golf.
He was a true gentleman, with an infectious smile and laughter that made strangers into friends. He was caring, spiritual and selfless, with a gentle kindness, a lover of God, his wife, his daughter and family and friends in that order.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m., until service time at 1 p.m., on Thursday, August 24, 2017, with at Kirby Woods Baptist Church, in Memphis, Tenn., with Rev. David Love officiating. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Joe Gattozzi, Chris Gattozzi, John Roebuck, Skeet May, Steve Asher and Dan Asher.
Our family wishes to extend many thanks and much gratitude to the nurses at Hospice of West Alabama.
