Anatole "Tony" Blanchard met Jesus on Thursday, September 27, 2012, welcomed into Heaven with only one possible greeting: "Well done, my good and faithful servant". Tony was born on April 16, 1915 in Bayou Goula, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Phillip Blanchard, his brothers, Felix, Lawrence and Daniel, and sister, Ethel. He is survived by his beautiful wife of nearly 70 years, Thelma Lambert Blanchard and four dedicated children, Tony Blanchard (Kay), Barbara McClelland, Debbie Scheaffer (Frank), and Kyle Blanchard. He is also survived by his nine adoring grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren who forever will remember their Paw-Paw. In Heaven he has been reunited with his son Billy.
Thelma and Tony moved to River Ridge, LA in 1958. For 46 years they raised their family there, as he became known to the neighbors as "the Mayor of Sharla Drive". Tony was a deacon of Riverside Baptist Church from 1998 – 2004. He loved people, and looked to serve everyone he met.
Tony spent his entire career with Dixie Carriers as a brilliant self-taught engineer. Even today he is recognized as a cornerstone of the company. A dedicated leader, he spent countless hours on barges and in engine rooms making sure the job was done right. He could fix anything, and he was still fixing things right up until he went home.
He gave his life to his God, his family, and his work. He was our hero. We see him in so many things around us, and miss him terribly. We are confident that today his body has been restored and he's celebrating in Heaven with his Savior, and probably looking for something to fix!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
