ELIZA CALDWELL ARNOLD

The messenger of death brought to a close a long siege of intense suffering when the summons came Tudesday evening April 6 and called from this world to the spirit world the soul of Mrs. Eliza Caldwell Arnold widow of the late William Arnold.

Mrs. Arnold was born May 22, 1854 and for many years had not enjoyed good health. On April 6, 1936 at 5 30 she was brought from the operating room Memorial Hospital where the left limb had been removed just above the knee and just one year later at the same hour she slept peacefully away. The operation was made necessary because of a gangrenous condition that had developed in the foot. Several months ago a similar condition developed in the other foot and her suffering became intense. Sometime age she suffered a stroke which left her right side helpless and she was unable to talk which made her condition more pitiable.

Mrs. Arnold made a remarkable comeback after her operation and was just as ambitious as ever. She was very handy with the needle and spent much time in quilting. She had a chair fitted so she could move it where she wanted it, and thus was able to take care of herself and do a number of things about the house. She did not bemoan her fate but with true courage and a brave heart faced the future. Thus she met life and in the same manner met death.

She was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was always found in her place when it was possible to be there. She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters Mrs. Minerva High of Clearfield, Mrs. Mary Walker at home, and Mrs. Mattie Bell of DuBois. Her husband and one daughter preceded her in death. She is also survived by one brother and one sister, D M Bloom of Seneca Kansas and Mrs. John Dotts of Clearfield.

Funeral services will be held from her late home on Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, after which the body will be taken to the Lutheran Church at New Millport where futher services will be held and interment will be made in the cemetery nearby. The service will be in charge of her pastor, the Rev. Roy E Hauser.
