Clay D Bolder, colored, a retired stationary engineer of the Frost foundry, and for many years a resident of Galesburg, died at his home, 194 South Henderson Street early on the morning of New Year's Day. His death occured at 1:15 o'clock after Mr. Bolder had been in poor health for five years.
Clay Dean Bolder was born in Monroe County, MO, 12 miles southeast of Paris, on May 5, 1858. He was the son of Henry and Malinda Bolder, who with three sisters and on brother preceded him in death. Mr. Bolder was raised by a Mr. and Mrs. Woods in Missouri and he lived with them until he married his first wife, Ellen Campbell.
After a year in his native state, he went to Macomb and began to work for the Fisher foundry. He served there ten years, and then came to Galesburg, where for 40 years he was employed at Frost's until he retired eight years ago. He belonged in the Second Baptist Church here while he was a resident of Galesburg, having joined the faith in Paris, MO. He was a trustee of the local church.
In Galesburg, Mr. Bolder married Miss Estella Lyons. After her death he married Ida Corabella Steele. She survives, with two brothers, William Bolder of Paris, MO and George Nelson Bolder of Mexico, MO, four nieces, Mrs. Nellie Lewis of Galesburg, Lily May Bolder of St. Louis, MO, Mrs. Minnie Goul of Mexico, MO and Mrs. Susie Carter of Paris, MO, and one nephew, Matt Bolder of St. Louis, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Second Baptist Church, in charge of the Rev. WT Greene. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the home, 194 South Henderson Street, tonight.
