"Marian Boll Barbaree 1908 -2005
Marian B. Barbaree, long-time Bowie resident, died peacefully at home in Dallas on July 3, of natural causes. She was 96 years old.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at the Bowie Methodist Church with interment at Desert Rose Cemetery immediately following.
Marian Mead Boll was born Dec. 20, 1908, in New Hope, Kansas, to Charles and Estelle Boll. The family moved to Cochise in 1909 to homestead, then to Bowie, where she was one of the first students to graduate from Bowie High School. She attended the University of Arizona and completed her teaching credentials at Tempe Normal, now Arizona State University. Her first teaching position was at Cochise, where she taught grades 1-4 for two years. She also taught in Casa Grande, Cave Creek, Roll, Fort Worth and Concord, Calif.
While living and working in Concord, she met and married Howard Barbaree on July 8, 1944. They were married for 33 years until his death in 1977.
Marian returned to Bowie in 1959 to help care for her elderly father, and taught in the elementary school until her retirement in 1973.
Marian was very active in the Methodist Church and was church secretary for several years. She loved reading and traveling. She had many special friends in Bowie and will be missed by all who knew her. Upon moving to Dallas several years ago to be nearer to family, she was honored by the entire community of Bowie for her many years of teaching and community service.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her brother Victor M. Boll, and her nephew, Roger W. Boll. She is survived by her nephew Victor C. Boll, five great-nieces and nephews, and many great-great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bowie Methodist Church.
Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox."
