Bruno Bombeck was born September 3, 1915 to Fred and Martha Bombeck at Bellingham, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in Minnesota. He moved with his family in 1930 to New Effington, SD where he helped on the farm. In 1941, he married Alice Weibeto and they moved to Portland, OR where he worked in the shipyards. He entered the U. S. Army in 1943 where he served with the II Airborne Division and the 925 Ordinance Division in England, France and Germany. He earned the American Theater Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and was discharged in 1946. He returned to South Dakota and farmed until 1951 when Alice died. Bruno then worked road construction in Minnesota for 11 years and in South Dakota for 5 years. He married Monica Haase in 1969. Bruno worked for the Roberts County Highway Department for 11 years. He was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bruno is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step-sons, two step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Alice.
