Alice Maude (Chervet) Borah as born in Mercer Co., Pa, Feb. 15, 1857 and peacefully passed out of this life Oct. 9, 1923, age 66 years, 7 months and 23 days. Alice was the daughter of William & Eliza (Rankin) Chervet. She was the widow of the late George R Borah, being united with him in marriage at Bloomington, WI, Oct. 8, 1877. Mr Borah's parents were amoung the pioneer settlers of Wisconsin, residing on a farm near Mt. Ida. It was at this home that these happy young people immediately took up their residence, living there until the time of their death. Mrs Borah or Alice, as she was generally known to everyone, was a woman of great breadth of affection. She saw only the good in people and to a very remarkable degree. She had the quality of making everyone love her. Truly we can say of her life it was a life of service to others and for her Master, her family and to the community, where her kindly ministrations will be long remembered. One of her greatest enjoyments was to entertain her friends in her home which was always opened to receive them; how we shall miss her, a congenial friend of both the old and young. By her useful and upright life she enjoyed the love and esteem of all. In her earlier years she joined the United Brethren Church, but as time passed it was not convenient for her to attend the church of her choice, however here was a religion broad enough to be able to worship at any shrine where she might meet her Lord and Master. She was a strong supporter of benevolent work, both in the home and foreign field, giving of her means wherever there was a worthy cause and a great need. There were no children in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Borah and after the death of here beloved husband three years ago none but God will ever know of the loneliness and heartache of those days. Could she speak to us today we cannot be feel whe would say with the opostle Paul, "oh death, were is thy sting, oh grave, were is thy victory? Thanks be unto God who giveth us the victory through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."Of the immediate relatives who mourn the loss of this good woman are her half brother, Alfred Miller and wife of Platteville and one niece Mrs. Albert (Mattie) Hunter of Fennimore, besides many other relatives and friends. Also preceding her in death was her brother William (Billy) Chervet in 1913.
