Virginia B. McLelland, 77 of San Antonio, Texas passed away Monday, August 15, 2005 at Christus Spohn Hospital, Corpus Christi, Texas, following a 3 year struggle, she died of heart failure.
She was born July 21, 1928 in Marksville, Louisiana to Edgar Pierre and Julia Bordelon. She was the youngest of five daughters. She was a retired beautician and mother of three daughters.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years James Fred McLelland, Jr. who was a General Sales Manager for Crain Distributing, Budweiser and three sisters: Katherine Norman, Sadie Lalande, and Rae Givens.
She is survived by her daughters Debra Pearl McLelland of San Antonio, Texas, Deana Lucille McLelland Carey of Portland, Texas and Linda Jeannine Ellis of Goodyear, Arizona; one sister Rita Marie Edwards of Marksville, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Sara Frances and Virginia Marie Carey, Jason Lee Ellis, and Joy Laurel Webb; one great-grandchild, Chase Dakota Ellis. Virginia, called ?Dean? by family and friends was a true Cajun from Louisiana.
She cherished her heritage, and lived her life in various parts of Louisiana, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and was a longtime resident of Texas. She lived her live with ?gusto?, touching many lives along the way. She was affectionately known as ?Mama Gumbo?, and was deeply loved and respected.
