From his attending a rural one-room grade school, then going on to graduate from Austin, PA, schools and Bucknell University, as well as earning a Master’s degree in English Literature at Brown University of Providence, RI, and pursuing his love of classical music through studying piano at the New England Conservatory of Boston, Mr. Borelli became a true Renaissance man.
In addition to numerous years as a teacher in Massachusetts and Rhode Island schools, his accomplishments were many, including: solo musical stint on a Providence television program called “Intermezzo” in the late 1950s; filmmaker; writer (his memoir entitled “The East Fork Revisited” tells of his growing up in the wilds of Potter County and his affection for the steam engines and railroads of his youth – fostered by his father’s work as a foreman on both the Susquehanna & Buffalo Logging Railway and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad); clockmaker, proprietor of the former Old Bedford Clockworks, Fall River; and satirist (his witty, political cartoons often reproduced in the Providence Journal). He was also a Navy veteran of World War II.
Alfred leaves: 2 sisters, Madeline Leonard of Rural Valley, PA, and Louise Gerardy of Port Allegany, PA; 9 nieces & nephews; many devoted students & friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Costa, late of
Smethport, PA, and 2 infant siblings. His funeral was private where he was buried in his family lot in Pennsylvania.
