BIG SANDY-Gladys Aman, 79, of Big Sandy, died of natural causes Monday, March 4, at Great Falls Care Center.

Gladys Aman was born in Chinook on Nov. 5, 1933, to Carl and Hannah Bosch. She grew up on an irrigated farm near Chinook and attended grade school at a rural schoolhouse and then attended Chinook High School, where she graduated in 1951.

From the time she was a small child, she knew she wanted to be a teacher. She attended Northern Montana College in Havre, where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. Gladys started her teaching career at a summer school in the Bears Paw Mountains. She also taught school in Wolf Point, Cut Bank, and after her marriage, she taught in Big Sandy for 38 years. Gladys retired in 1994, having spent a total of 41 years teaching school.

Gladys always loved teaching and enjoyed reading and hearing about the accomplishments of her former students. Growing up, she was very active in 4-H and won many national awards and trips, especially with her leadership and gardening projects. She continued her love of gardening when she moved to Big Sandy and was well known for her beautiful garden and loved sharing her vegetables with her neighbors and friends.

Gladys was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and was active in the Big Sandy Senior Center.

Gladys is survived by her only son and her two grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her brother, Burton Bosch; and her parents.
