Mrs. Almira Bowden, widow of the late Rudolphus Bowden, died at her residence, 410 E. Charlotte street, Thursday morning, March 24th, after an illness of several weeks. The funeral services were held at St. John’s A. M. E. Church, Sunday afternoon, March 27th and was largely attended. Dr. L. L. Berry, the pastor, spoke very feelingly of the life and work of Mrs. Bowden and her many fine traits of character and her untiring devotion to the church. She was a resident of Norfolk for the past forty years, being survived by the following children, Mrs. E. H. Harper, of Columbus, GA, Messrs. Clarence, Willie, Robert L. and Thomas T. and one grandson. The remains were laid to rest in West Point Cemetery. There was a profusion of beautiful floral offerings. Mrs. Bowden was buried in a vault. Dr. W. Byrd gave the Scripture lesson. Rev. (blurred) officiated.
