CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND - Allan D Bowden, 62, of Chincoteague Island passed away at his home Wednesday, May 20, 2009, with his family at his side. Allan was born in Salisbury on May 15, 1947, as a son of Nancy Watson Williams and the late Robert N Bowden. He was a member of Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, Accomack Lodge 243, Royal Arch, Order of the Eastern Star 62 and the Ready Sunday School class of Union Baptist Church. He worked as a parts manager for Tyson Foods Inc., for almost 40 years. He also served in the US Army Reserves, with the rank of sergeant. Allan is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joyce Johnson Bowden; a daughter, Denise P Bowden; and his mother, Nancy Williams, all of Chincoteague Island. He is also survived by a sister in law, Billie Ann Bowden of Chincoteague; two brothers in law, Alfred "Dino" Johnson of Chincoteague and Mike Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; special friends, Mike and Linda McGee of Chincoteague; special grandson, Dog Tippy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert N Bowden; stepfather, Skeet Williams; and brother, Robert Jack Bowden, Sr. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2pm at Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating. Friends and family are invited to call today from 7-9pm at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., with a Lodge service at 7:30pm. Interment will be in Daisey Cemetery in Chincoteague. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of Eastern Shore, 165 Market St., Onancock, Va., 23417; or the Union Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 6365 Church St., Chincoteague, Va.,23336.
