"Mr. John M. Bowers, one of the noted lawyers of the country, died last night in the Laurel House, at Lakewood, N. J., of heart disease, following a severe attack of indigestion. Mr. Bowers, who was sixty-eight years old, went to Lakewood a week ago with Mrs. Bowers in the hope of gaining strength. He had been ill during the severe winter in the city, and was quite weak when he left his town house, at No. 45 East Sixty-fifth street ... Mrs. Bowers, who was his second wife, and who was Miss Katherine E. Starkweather, was with Mr. Bowers when he died, and she will come to the city today with the body. The interment probably will be at Cooperstown, N. Y., where Mr. Bowers was born ... In addition to his wife Mr. Bowers leaves five children, Mr. Spotswood D. Bowers, Mr. Henry M. Bowers, Mr. William C. Bowers, 2d; Mrs. Arthur Coppell, of Tenafly, N.J., and Mrs. Dandridge Bowers. Mr. Bowers was a member of the Union, Metropolitan, Manhattan, Riding, Downtown and Racquet clubs, the Brook, the Garden City Golf Club, the Automobile Club of America, the Sons of the Revolution and the Society of Colonial Wars."
