MRS. S. D. BOWERS DIES FOLLOWING OPERATION HERE
Bride of a Year Had Come Home to Celebrate Wedding Anniversary.
Daughter of Late Justice McLennan Was Popular Socially.

Mrs. Spotswood D. Bowers of Bridgeport, Conn., formerly Miss Christina McLennan of this city, died at the Crouse-Irving hospital early this morning of the effects of shock following a minor operation to which she submitted on Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bowers came here a few days ago to celebrate their first wedding anniversary with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart F. Hancock, whose wedding day corresponded with their own. On Monday Mrs. Bowers went to the hospital, where she expected to remain for only a few days. No one had any idea that the operation would be attended by the slightest danger, and it was successfully performed, but the patient did not rally from the shock and death came this morning. It was entirely unexpected, almost up to the last.

Married Year Ago.

Mrs. Bowers was married a year ago to Spotswood D. Bowers, son of John M. Bowers and who was senior counsel to Col. Theodore Roosevelt in the libel action brought against the former President by William Barnes and tried in Supreme court here in the spring of 1914.
Stewart F. Hancock, whose wife was Miss Marian McLennan, was assistant counsel for Colonel Roosevelt, and during the progress of the trial, Mr. Hancock and Spotswood D. Bowers were thrown much together. The latter was entertained at Mr. Hancock's home and while there met Miss Christina McLennan, Mrs. Hancock's sister. the engagement was announced soon afterwards and th wedding took place in June.
Mrs. Bowers was the daughter of the late Justice Peter B. McLennan, presiding justice of the Fourth department of the Appellate division.
She was most popular socially, both in this city and Bridgeport, where she had made hosts of friends though a resident less than a year. She was also a gifted pianist.
The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hancock, No. 819 Livingston avenue, the Rev. John H. Applebee of May Memorial church officiating. The survivors besides Mr. Bowers are Mrs. Bowers' mother, Mrs. Arabell McLennan; one sister, Mrs. Stewart F. Hancock, and one brother, Colin McLennan of New York city.
