The fifth child of Joel Smith and Isabella Marshall Smith, of Stony Point, was Lucy Jane Smith (June 23, 1838-April 29, 1927) and she married John Andrew Bowie on April 9, 1857.

John Andrew Bowie served as a Major in Confederate service. After the War Between the States, John Andrew Bowie returned to Charleston and was in the wholesale hardware business with a partner named Wadsworth. Later he returned to the wholesale mercantile business and finally removed to Atlanta where he was engaged in insurance. (Note: 1850 Census of Charleston, SC shows he was born in 1833) He died Dec 13, 1898. He and his wife are buried in Atlanta.
