Alice Bowie Abseck

Alice Bowie Abseck, 86, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010, at the Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center in Paonia, Colorado. She was born on November 24, 1923 in Delta, Colorado to the late John and Blanche (Mulholland) Bowie. Alice spent her childhood in Bowie and Paonia, Colorado graduating from Paonia High School in 1941. After graduating, she attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. She served in the US Navy from 1944 -1946. She married George Abseck on September 17, 1949 in Hotchkiss, CO. Alice was a homemaker and worked with her husband George in his business, A & M Electric. Later she was employed as the secretary of Paonia High School for nine years before retiring. Alice was a member of Friends of the Library and the North Fork Historic Preservation Society. She was an avid reader and loved local history. She enjoyed music, gardening and bird watching. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Blanche Bowie; her husband, George Abseck; her son, Christopher Abseck; her brothers, Morris and Kenneth Bowie; and her sister, Agnes Sabin. Alice is survived by her daughter, Trish Tuin and husband, Van of Paonia, Colorado; two grandsons, Andrew Tuin and wife, Melanie of Fort Collins, Colorado and Stephen Tuin of North Carolina; and granddaughter, Heather Tuin of Grand Junction, Colorado. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
