The son of Francis M. Bowler and Grace A. Lawrence, Eldon graduated from Roxana High School in Roxana, Madison County, Illinois as a member of the Class of 1952.

He married Rose Mary "Rosie" Paynic on 05 Aug 1955 in the rectory of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Wood River, Illinois. Jeanne Stewart and George Paynic were their attendants.

Eldon and Rosie were the parents of 2 children.

He worked for the Granite City Steel Company. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959. After receiving his discharge from the service, he returned to the steel mill.

Eldon retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1992 after 37 years of service. During his retirement years, he worked for Paynic Home for Funerals and for Fine Funeral Homes.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1349.

Eldon and Rosie's golden wedding anniversary took place in August of 2005. She passed away the following year.

For many years, Eldon was the driving force who organized the reunions and luncheons enjoyed by fellow Class of 1952 Roxana graduates. He continued to work on keeping the tradition going even after he began his battle with cancer, and attended his final class luncheon just weeks before his death.

Eldon struggled valiantly with cancer for an extended time. He died at his home in Godfrey, Illinois 29 days after his 81st birthday. He was under hospice care and was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was survived by 1 daughter and son-in-law of Tempe, Arizona; 1 son of Godfrey; 2 step-grandchildren; and a very special friend, (Living) Cato Schlobohm, who provided wonderful care and support during his final years.

In addition to his wife, Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 sister, "Mae" Oller Patterson.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on 06 Nov 2015 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at the United Presbyterian Church in Wood River. Eldon was buried next to Rosie with full military honors.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the O.S.F. St. Anthony's Hospice or to the church.
