Rebecca was the daughter of Thomas and Phebe (Hall) Freeman. She was the first wife of Joseph Bowman (born 19 Sep 1752 Bedford, MA, died 17 Aug 1815 Royalton, VT), son of Jonas and Abigail (Russell) Bowman. Joseph bought 50 acres of land in Barnard, VT on 17 May 1777. On 19 Oct 1779, he bought an additional 260 acres. Sometime between 1789 and 1794, he moved from Barnard to Royalton. On 16 Mar 1789, he bought 102 acres in Royalton from Isaac Bowman, who had purchased that land in 1783. Later, Joseph bought other land in Royalton. By 1812, he was the biggest landowner in Royalton.
