"Mrs. Marie B. Borchers, 83, former lontime president of the Greensburg News Publishing Company and a highly regarded woman of this community, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

"She was born in Greensburg Feb. 13, 1894, the daughter of Luther D. and Ella Thomson Braden. Her father, a highly respected local newspaperman, was co-owner of the Greensburg Daily News with the late E. J. Hancock until his death.

"Mrs. Borchers was graduated from Greensburg High School and Tudor Hall and attended Wellesley College, after which she was a teacher in the local high school for a brief period.

"She was first married Dec. 26, 1917 to Arthur M. Wagner and resided in Shelbyville until his death in 1933, at which time she returned to Greensburg. She was then united in marriage April 26, 1946 with Bernard W. Borchers, who preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1953.

"Following the death of her father, Mrs. Borchers served for 25 years as president of the board of directors of the Greensburg News Publishing Company, of which she was majority stockholder, until the newspaper was sold to Worrell Newspapers in October, 1973. During this period she also was on the board of directors of the Rushville Republican and Telegram, in which she had an interest.

"She had been an active member of the First Christian Church here since 1904 and was affiliated with the Lee Ella Circle of the Christian Women's Fellowshhip.

"Mrs. Borchers was the oldest member of the Tri Kappa Sorority in Greensburg, having been initiated into Omega chapter in f1914, which she twice served as president. She was also a past president of the sorority's Gamma Delta chapter at Shelbyville, which she helped to organize while living in the city. She served as province officer for the organization in 1935 and was honored in 1975 for her many contributions to the sorority by the local Tri Kappa Associate Chapter, of which she was a charter member.

"Also quite active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, she served two terms as president of local Chapter T and in 1938 was elected corresponding secretary of the state organization in 1938, advancing through the chairs to the post of state president in 1942.

"Honorary membership in the Woman's Press Club of Indiana was bestowed on Mrs. Borchers in 1955.

"Her most immediate survivor is a stepdaughter, Mrs. Walter Borchers, San Jose, Calif. The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home by Dr. Michael Thiel, pastor of the First Christian Church. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery."
