A former part-time newspaper carrier for The Virginian-Pilot newspaper, Mr. Brashear was a native of Springfield Gardens, Long Island, N.Y. He attended area Catholic churches. He was also an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Darden Brashear; son Randy Brashear of Portsmouth; mother Junetta W. Brashear of Portsmouth; father Carl Brashear of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Phillip Brashear of Richmond, Dwayne Brashear of Newark, N.J., and Patrick Brashear of Jarratt, Va.; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in New Testament Church, Portsmouth, by Elder Charles H. Bowens Jr. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, with military honors. Viewing in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at 1 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church prior to the funeral.
