Modelle Brasher Ballard passed from this life on August 14, 2014 at the age of 96. She was born on November 12, 1917 in Lubbock, Texas to Corrie Lee Acuff Brasher and Larence Hubbard Brasher. A few years later her family moved to Weslaco, Texas where her father began a retail business. They remained there until they moved to the Austin-Dripping Springs area midway through the Great Depression as Modelle began her senior year in high school.

Modelle met Clovis Ballard whom she married in 1941. Clovis served in WWII before settling with Modelle in Austin to begin a grocery business. They had three sons. As a parent, Modelle was a faithful example of love for family by providing a secure home for her sons and helping in their activities. She was a life long member of the Church of Christ. She volunteered at St. David's Hospital for many years, as well as taking an active part in her community of Rollingwood.

Modelle and Clovis travelled extensively in the western United States which Modelle had experienced as a young child with her parents. Travel to other parts of the world during her later years reflected her love of adventure. That adventuresome spirit was still evident at age 93 when she enjoyed a speed boat ride with her sons on Lake Austin.

In recent years dementia and severe hearing loss made life more difficult for Modelle. Her family wishes to thank the caregivers in the ClareBridge dementia unit at the Summit at Northwest Hills for their loving hearts; their kindness made a lot of difference in her quality of life. The family also wishes to acknowledge the members of University Avenue Church of Christ who remembered Modelle with frequent cards and visits.

She leaves behind the family she loved: son Robert G.(Jerry) Ballard and wife Kathleen (Kay) of Austin and son Charles W.(Chuck) Ballard and wife Jeanne of Greenville Texas. Modelle is also survived by grandchildren Barton Ballard, Libby Ballard, Ellen Ballard Evans and husband Matthew, Benjamin Ballard and wife Valerie, Kourtney Ballard Mireles, Morgan Ballard Lyons and husband Tom, Joseph Ballard and wife Sharon, Bethany Ballard Roszhart and husband Nathaniel, and several great-grandchildren. Modelle was predeceased by her husband Clovis Ballard, son John R. Ballard, and brother Joe Brasher.

A graveside celebration of Modelle's life will be held Tuesday, August 19th at 10:30 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m., Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Modelle may give a gift in her name to a charity of their choice or donate to African Pastoral Training Ministries (www.aptministries.org), 1419 Wolfe City Drive, Greenville, Texas 75401, through which her son, Chuck, assists pastors in Africa with their work.
