GALESBURG -- Dorothy D. Briggs, 86, of 1209 21st Ave., Rock Island, formerly of Galesburg, died at 3:35 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 1996, at Silver Cross Nursing Center in Rock Island.

Born Oct. 14, 1910, in Galesburg to Walter and Dorothy Schultz Dopp, she married Paul H. Briggs on Oct. 5, 1931, in Galesburg. He died March 17, 1989. She also was preceded in death by three sisters.

Surviving are one son, Judson "Bill" of Rock Island; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Sara) Damgaard of Barrington Hills; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She attended the former Lombard College in Galesburg and graduated from Knox College in 1930. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta. She studied dance in Chicago and operated a dance studio in Kewanee.

She was a member of Lake Bracken Country Club in Galesburg.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Kermit W. Petersen will officiate. Burial will be in Maquon Cemetery in Maquon.

Memorials may be made to her church.
