Frieda attended Zion Lutheran School through the 8th grade. On March 30, 1947 she married Walter L. "Jim" Bartels and to this union three children were born, Lonna, Allen and Marilyn. They lived on the family farm near Wilcox, Nebraska until retirement, when they moved into Hildreth, Nebraska. Frieda was very proud to have received her GED in 1964. Frieda enjoyed music. Jim and she performed at nursing homes in the area. She played the guitar, was an avid reader and would spend many hours on word searches. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frieda was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hildreth, Nebraska.
Survivors are: son, Allen R. Bartels and wife, KaAnn of Lawrence, Kansas; daughter, Marilyn Hughes and husband, Scott of Glen Elder, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Venla Bartels, Holdrege, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frieda is preceded in death by: husband, Walter L. "Jim" Bartels; daughter, Lonna Knaus and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home, Minden, Nebraska at 10:30 a.m.
Burial was in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Hildreth, Nebraska.
