Gertrude Esther Blair, 90, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center in Des Moines.Gertrude was born September 29, 1924 in West Des Moines, Iowa, to Solomon and Fannie Brody. She was a graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines and attended Business School. Gertrude married Jack David Blair on March 21, 1948. Gertrude and Jack were partners in life and business. They owned and operated Jack Blair's Food Market for many years in East Des Moines. She was a member of Beth El Jacob Sisterhood and also volunteered at Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. Her life revolved around loving family, dear friends and Jewish life. Always gracious with a beautiful smile; Gertrude was loved and respected by all who knew her.She is lovingly remembered by her children, Rochelle Sapot of St. Louis, MO, Diane (Larry) Morris of Atlanta, GA, Suzanne Wulff of Phoenix, AZ and Mark (Paige) Blair of Urbandale; brother, Charles (Ruth) Brody of Chicago, IL; sister, Helen (Harlan) Lekowsky of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Stacy (Eli) Abeles, Steve (Tetje) Sapot, Heather (Eli) Robbins, Bryan (Amy) Morris, Brad Wulff, Lisa Wulff, Madelyn Blair and Samuel Blair; great-grandchildren, Aaron and Jonah Abeles, Ari and Esmé Robbins, and Violet Morris; and several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was preceded into eternal life by her parents; beloved husband of 60 years, Jack Blair; brother, Harold Brody; son-in-law, Harvey Sapot; and a dear family member Helena Rawicz.
