Margaret "Maggie" "Darlin" (Brooke) Alexander, 89, departed peacefully from this life Tuesday morning, July 14, 2015.

Maggie was born June 14, 1926, in Grand-Mère, Quebec, to the late Horace J. Brooke and Grace (Catto) Brooke. She immigrated, married, had her children in Brunswick, Maine, later moving to and spending the majority of her life Coventry and Vernon-Rockville. Maggie was a longtime employee of Standard Register and Rockville Hospital, where she earned recognition for her dedication, hard work, and service. What defined Maggie was her unwavering loyalty and support for her friends, community, and most of all her family; she gave selflessly and without hesitation. Maggie did everything to the extreme, living her life fully and with gusto - out dancing Saturday nights, impromptu trips to visit family in Maine and across the country, attending country music festivals and concerts, trips to the casino with her friends. Always the show-woman, she participated in the Ms. Senior Connecticut Pageant at the age of 70. Her love of country music was known to all and she was the recipient an outstanding service award from the Connecticut Country Music Association.

Though Maggie may have been small in stature, she was larger than life with her big hair, big laugh, big personality, and big heart. The world is a less bright place without her in it and she will be sorely missed by those who were lucky enough to be part of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianna Barnhart; her grandchildren, Katherine Alexander, Brenden Alexander, Jennifer Sleeper, Chris Moore, Andy Moore, David Moore, Kimberly Moore, Raymond Lambert, Wendy Balzano, Sara Alexander, Robert Barnhart, and Naomi Van Oudenhove; her sister-in-law and close friend, Joanne Brooke; and her dear friends Pat Cyr and Mary Morin; as well as several other relatives; numerous friends; and loved ones. She was predeceased by her son, Stanley E. Alexander Jr.; her daughter, Donna Moore; her husband, Stanley E. Alexander Sr.; and her siblings.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care she received while residing at Fox Hill Center in Vernon and from the hospice team from the VNHS of Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maggie's memory to the Hospice division of the Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.

A graveside service and burial will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, at New Coventry Cemetery, Coventry.
