Francis Broward was the son of Charles Broward b. 18 May 1785 in South Carolina d. 10 Aug 1853 in Jacksonville, Duval, FL. and Jane Elizabeth Eubank b. 18 Mar 1784 d. 28 June 1849 in Jacksonville, Duval, FL. In 1860, Jasper, Hamilton, Florida, Francis Broward is listed in the Slave Schedules as a prominant Slave Owner. Records indicate that he owned 16 slaves as follows: Black Males: ages 55, 34, (2) 15, 12, 8,4,3,1; Black Females ages:50,24, 13,(2) 10, 8 and a Mulatto male age 19. In the 1860 Census he lived in Jasper, Hamilton, Florida. He married Melinda Bryan 1819-1856 on April 14, 1840. They had the following children: Sophia Jane b. 06/06/1841; Martha M. b. 04/01/1843; Elizabeth Louise b. 01/10/1846; Charles b. 04/30/1848; and Susan Broward b. 04/08/1851.
