Chaneé was a dynamic Baldwin High School honors basketball captain with her sights on the FBI academy. She had her life all mapped out, was an intelligent young woman of great promise who already was a leader among her peers and making the world a better place. Chaneé was an academic honors student who had been accepted at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, she had been a member of the Nassau County Police Department's cadet group the Explorers, since September 2005. She was always on time, never had a problem, took direction easily and was really enthusiastic about the program. A solid point guard both on the school's varsity team and the summer Amateur Athletic Union team, she had been shooting hoops since she was 12, playing in the Police Athletic Leagues of Hempstead and Baldwin. She spent her first high school year at Bishop Kellenberg High School in Uniondale where she was a captain of both the Baldwin and the AAU teams. She was also in the school chorale and several after-school clubs. She also was active in her church, Zion Cathedral, in Freeport. Besides her grandfather, Hezekiah Brown, survivors include her parents, Rodney and Maxine Brown; her sister, Crystal Brown, and her grandmother, Christine Brown. She was 18.
