Amon, Barbara Joan

Barbara Joan Brown Amon was born on June 21, 1927 to parents Dorothy Quinby Brown and William James Brown in White Plains, New York and she passed away on May 7, 2015 in Plano, Texas surrounded by her daughter and family. Barbara attended White Plains schools and graduated from White Plains High School in 1945. Barbara married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Howard Amon, on October 29, 1948 while he was attending University of Virginia. Howard rejoined Barbara in White Plains upon graduating and attended New York Law School. Barbara took care of her husband and children during ten moves throughout the United States from Connecticut to California while he was with JCPenney. She found time between packing for the moves to volunteer for charity and play bridge. Barbara was devoted and supportive in every way and Howard adored her which resulted in a successful and remarkable marriage. They shared great travel and attended wonderful events like the Indianapolis 500 and the Kentucky Derby and truly were best friends and companions. Howard knew he could count on Barbara to know what to say when they were with his business associates at a fancy gala or invited to their home. Needless to say, Barbara Brown Amon was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and she will be missed so much by those who loved and cherished her more than words can express.

Barbara (Mom, Grannybar) was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 48 years, A. Howard Amon, Jr., her parents, and older sister Ruth Quinby. She is survived by three children: son Arthur H. Amon, III and wife Leta of Danville, California; son Scott R. Amon and wife Sherrie of Vancouver, Washington; and daughter Patricia Quinby Amon Johnson and husband Scott P. Johnson of Plano, Texas. She is survived by nine grandchildren including Elizabeth Q. Johnson who was faithfully by her side during her last years, two great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. Barbara (Mom, Grannybar) Brown Amon will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all of us.
