Actress. Born in Hampstead, England, she was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made her first appearance as Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" at Stratford-on-Avon in 1936. Coming to America, she appeared on Broadway in the 1947 and made her big screen debut in "One of Our Aircraft is Missing" (1942). Her many film credits included "Lust for Life" (1956), "The Scapegoat" (1959), "Cleopatra" (1963), "Secret Ceremony" (1968) and "Lady Caroline Lamb" (1970). For British television she appeared on the series "Sir Francis Drake", "ITV Playhouse", "ITV Play of the Week", "BBC Play of the Week" and "Fall of Eagles". At the time of her death at age 58, she was living with director Michael Powell and when he died 15 years later his grave was placed next to hers.
