Louise Berggren, 89, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Kingswood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Bell of Ware Living Center officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mrs. Berggren was born and raised in Texhoma, Okla. She was a graduate of Texhoma High School and received her master's degree in education from West Texas State University.

She had a passion for teaching children. Her first teaching position was in a one-room schoolhouse near Dalhart. After teaching in several small districts in the area, she moved to Panhandle in 1964, where she lived and taught from 1964 until her retirement in 1982.

In 1982, she returned to Amarillo, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Mrs. Berggren had three great passions in her life: her Lord, her son and family, and her students.

After retirement, her ministry took much of her time and efforts.

She was known as the "Dove Lady." She made doves out of clay; they were painted, glazed and worn around the neck of thousands of recipients. She included paperwork and ribbons with each dove that told the story of her Holy Spirit.

She was a charter member of Kingswood United Methodist Church and after moving to Ware Living Center attended First Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Don Brunton and Jim Brunton; and a sister, Doris Meyer.

Survivors include a son, Rodger Berggren and wife Rhnea of Amarillo; a brother, Bud Brunton of Amarillo; and three grandchildren, Lynzie, Ross and Kathryn.

The family suggests memorials be to Kingswood United Methodist Church, 4801 S. Austin St., Amarillo, TX 79110-3219.
