She was born May 28, 1943, in Johnstown to Glen and Leona (Roseman) Bucher.
She married Robert J. Backman on Nov. 5, 1961, in Greeley. They were divorced in 1996.
Judy and her ex-husband owned a rock shop for several years and did all types of lapidary work. Judy worked at Colorado State University in public relations for several years. She loved oil painting and spent many hours working and perfecting it. She also enjoyed reading, making and decorating padded photo albums and frames and crocheting; she just loved to keep busy.
She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Loveland. She was a member of two Bible study groups and the Thompson Valley Art League.
Judy is survived by a son, Robert J. Backman Jr. and wife Deb of Red Bluff, Calif.; two daughters, Renetta K. Chiodo and husband Mike of Colfax, Iowa, and Diana K. VandeSande and husband Matt of Edgewood, N.M.; three grandchildren, Trent and Garrett Backman of Red Bluff and Jessica VandeSande of Edgewood; close friends Tootie Backman, Therese Holley and Jeanne Stahl and many other friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Nate Backman.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Loveland. Inurnment of cremains will be in the Wellington Highland Cemetery in Wellington.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in her name in care of Northern Colorado Crematory, 700 Eighth St., Greeley, 80631.
