Ethel M. Bowen, 85 of Waycross died early Wednesday morning (June 11, 2003) at Satilla Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

Obituary For Ethel Maude Bullard Bowen
Ethel Bowen, 85, of Waycross died early Wednesday morning (June 11, 2003) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Waresboro, to the late Edward M. Bullard and Ethel McDonald Bullard she had made her home in Waycross all of her life. She was a 1935 graduate of Waresboro High School. She was retired from Dr. Vilda Shuman's office and also was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Mary-Martha Sunday School Class.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katheryn Lynn Bowen, and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Vernon W. Bowen Sr. of Waycross; her children, Vernon Bowen Jr. (Nancy) of Buda, Texas, Donald Bowen (JoAnn) of Knoxville, Tenn., Angela Bowen Tucker (Tommy) of Brunswick, Gay Marie Bowen James (George) of Foley, Ala.; her grandchildren, Vernon Bowen III of Buda, Texas, Sarah Dix (Ryan) of Knoxville, Tenn., Brandon Johnson (Dawn) of Jacksonville, N.C., Meredith Johnson of Gainesville, Fla., Trevor Johnson of Washington, D.C., Ben Pearce of Foley, Ala.; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Muzette Byars of Nashville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church with burial in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Miles- Odum Funeral Home. Members of the Home Bible Study Group, Circle No. 3 and the Mary-Martha Sunday School Class have been requested to serve as honorary pallbearers and are asked to gather at the church at 3:30 p.m.

A funeral for Ethel Maude Bowen was held Friday afternoon at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Patton and the Rev. Robert Hendrix officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Ben Childers, Charles McDonald, G.W. Harrington, Terrell Coppage, Mickey Rigsby, and Dr. Ric Zarzuela. Honorary pallbeaers were Circle No. 3, Mary-Martha Sunday School Class, and the Home Bible Study Group. Miles-Odum Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
