Funeral services for Blaine B. Buntrock, 82, of Eyota, MN, formerly of Columbia, SD, will be 10:30 am, Friday, March 17, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Chuch in Columbia, SD, with Rev. Tyler Poppen officiating and Rev. Bill Paepke preaching. Burial follows at St. John’s Cemetery, Columbia. Blaine died after a short illness with cancer on Friday, March 10, 2017, at his home, surrounded by family.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.

Visitation will be 6:00-7:30pm, Thursday, March 16, followed by a prayer service at 7:30pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

Blaine Bernhardt Buntrock was born on November 17, 1934, to Ben and Agnes (Anderson) Buntrock in Columbia, SD. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1952. Blaine served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1954-56. Blaine completed a B.S. in Biology from Northern State College in 1960, and a M.S. in Educational Psychology and Secondary School Administration in 1971. He married Blanch Holman on July 2, 1960, in Waubay, SD. He taught and later served as a guidance supervisor for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Belcourt, ND, Eagle Butte, SD, and Wahpeton, ND. From 1974-1988, Blaine returned to his passion of agriculture and farmed a 750-acre grain and hog operation in Brandon, MN. Blaine was a school counselor from 1988-1989 in Oakes, ND. He worked as a crop adjuster and lived on the farmstead until 2013, before relocating to be near family in Eyota, MN. Blaine took joy in family, vegetable gardens, fishing, and talking weather and politics.

He is survived by his wife, Blanch Buntrock of Eyota, MN; three sons: Dennis (Carol) Buntrock of Elgin, MN, Nathan (Jeannine) Buntrock and James (Martha) of Rochester, MN; one brother, Loren (Jane) Buntrock of Naperville, Ill., one sister, Audrey (Bill) Paepke of Piedmont, S.D.; and eleven grandchildren: Logan (Adabelle), Collin, Ahna, Clare, Emmy, Julia, Grace, Jack, Alexa, Michael, and Erica.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Ralph, Gary, and Sylvan Buntrock.
